Delman does not include cargo insurance as part of a standard air, sea or road freight booking. Carrier liability and Incoterms define what is covered by default — and for many shipments that baseline is enough. When the value of the goods, the route or the nature of the cargo calls for more, we can arrange cargo insurance on request, scoped to that specific movement.
When to ask for insurance
Insurance is worth discussing when the commercial value of the goods exceeds what standard carrier liability would recover in a loss, when you are shipping high-value or sensitive cargo, or when your buyer or contract requires proof of cover. It is also common on project cargo, exhibition goods and one-off high-value consignments where a partial claim would not reflect the real cost of replacement or delay.
- High-value goods — electronics, machinery, spare parts or finished products where replacement cost matters.
- Fragile or sensitive cargo — where damage in transit would be costly even if the shipment arrives.
- Contractual requirement — your customer or letter of credit asks for insurance to be in place.
- Peace of mind — you simply prefer all-risk cover for a particular shipment.
How we arrange it
Tell us when you request a quote or at booking stage that you want insurance included. We will confirm the insured value, the basis of cover and the premium before the policy is placed — nothing is added silently. Cover is arranged per shipment (or per project, where that makes more sense), aligned with the mode, route and documentation for that move.
Because insurance sits alongside the freight and customs clearance we already handle, the insured value, consignee details and routing stay consistent across the paperwork. One team coordinates the movement and the cover, rather than you chasing a separate broker after the fact.
What is not included by default
Standard freight quotations from Delman cover transport, handling and the logistics services quoted — not marine or cargo insurance unless you ask for it. Carrier terms limit liability by weight or package; that is separate from a dedicated cargo policy. If you are unsure whether your current Incoterm or contract already provides cover, we can talk it through before you decide.
Why arrange cover through Delman
- On request only — you choose when insurance is needed; we do not bundle it into every quote.
- Shipment-specific — cover matched to the goods, route and mode for that consignment.
- One point of contact — freight, customs and insurance coordinated by the same operations team.
- Clear before you book — premium and scope confirmed upfront, not discovered after dispatch.
